Rome {Day 2}

After having a little bit of trouble falling to sleep our first night, J and I slept in the second day and ate breakfast in our hotel. That's one thing I love about vacations. You can do whatever you please. Most days we didn't eat lunch until 2 or 3 and dinner around 9.

After breakfast we hopped in a taxi to the Colosseum. By hopped I mean we feared for our lives. The taxi drivers in Rome were some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. I don't mean they're bad as in New York city bad where drivers go really fast in close spaces. I mean the kind of bad where we almost hit people several times, no one obeys the speed limit or stays in their own lane, and if the lane you are in is moving slowly, then create your own land kind of bad. Honest to God, J and I were both legitimately scared.

After surviving the taxi, we pulled up to this.

We walked around the outside of the Colosseum and the arches next to it and then went inside to get our tickets. We chose to do an audio tour. Our philosophy when traveling is what's the point of seeing these great historical monuments if you don't know what you're looking at. We opted not to do any people guided tours as we like to go at our own pace.

After the Colosseum we headed over to the Trevi Fountain. The fountain was enormous and beautiful and so so crowded. The legend of the fountain is that if you toss a coin over your left shoulder you are ensured a return to Rome.

After so much sightseeing we rested up before dinner. We ate at little restaurant a few blocks from our hotel. I had one of my favorite meals, tortellini and J had spaghetti carbonara, his least favorite meal. He didn't realize the sauce in the spaghetti was egg yolk. He'll never make that mistake again.

Who wants to see Florence? Stay tuned for a re-cap of our favorite city!

  2. I'm with Mallory, I love it! I really love that picture of you and J in front of the Trevi Fountain! You should stow me away in your luggage for your return trip :).
