The Color Run

I hope you all had a fantastic Fourth of July. I'm so jealous of all my co-workers who have the next 2 days off!

Last weekend my dad and I participated in the 5k Color Run in Kansas City. The race was on Saturday and Sunday and over 25,000 people participated making it the largest Color Run yet. Even better, proceeds went to the KC Ronald McDonald House which provides a place for families with sick children to stay while their child is in the hospital or receiving treatment.

Early last Summer my dad had two knee replacements and although he has worked out and biked since then, this was his first "race" since having the surgery. I don't think we could have picked a better one. If The Color Run comes to your city I highly encourage you to participate! The race isn't timed so it's all about having fun. This would be a great first 5k for those of you wanting to do one.

All clean before the race.

Getting ready to start. The race was moved up to 7:30am from 9:00am because of the temperatures that day.

My dad and I got there early to pick up our race info and I'm so glad we did. We were in the first heat which meant our group was the first to start. Unlike other races where your heat number is determined by how fast you will finish, these heats started based on who got there first with each heat being released 5 minutes after the previous one. People who arrived later were further back and with over 15,000 people running, those in the last heats started almost an hour after we did.

At each kilometer color is squirted on you in the "color" zone. You can get as little or as much color as you want. Having something fun to look forward to at each K really made the race go by quickly.
