Crispy Fried Onion Straws

There is a restaurant in our town that makes the most delicious onion straws. They are thin, crispy, and so so good. After watching an episode of The Pioneer Woman, I adapted her recipe for onion strings to create my own version of onion straws.

What You'll Need:
(Serves 2)
-1 large sweet Vidalia onion
-1 c. buttermilk
-1 c. flour
-1 1/2 tbsp. Lowery's seasoning salt
-1 tsp. black pepper
-vegetable oil for frying

Begin by slicing your onion into thin rings. Place in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. The buttermilk helps take away some of the bite of the onion.

Next, mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.

In small amounts, take the onions out of the buttermilk, cover with the flour mixture, then place into a pan with vegetable oil heated to ~350 degrees. I had my heat on medium to medium high and they didn't burn at all.

Once the rings are a golden brown, mine took about 4-5 minutes, place on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain.

Serve with your favorite burger or eat them straight from the pan. They're that good:)
