Jack: 3 Month Update

Jack, you have been with us an entire 3 months. You are most definitely growing. I used to be able to hold you with one arm, no problem at all, but it's becoming more of a challenge as you chunk up.

We are so thankful you are getting bigger especially since at your 2 month Well Child Check you hadn't gained much weight. You were in the 50% for height but only 10% for weight (10.4lbs). Long story short, after a couple of meetings with the lactation consultant and breastfeeding for a solid 3 months, you now take formula 100% of the time and are doing so much better and gaining weight! We gave breastfeeding a go, did the best we could, and I'm glad that I was able to do it as long as I could.

You don't have another doctor's appointment until the end of October but I weighed you on the scale at home and you're up to 13 pounds. Your face, arms, and legs are starting to fill out more and get a little chunk. You're still in size 1 diapers and anywhere from 0-3 months, 3 month, and a few 3-6 months clothes.

This month your smiles grew even bigger an you smile all the time. You LOVE it when people look at and talk to you. You've also became ticklish on your neck, thighs, and under your arms. Whenever I tickle you, you let out the biggest laugh and it is so precious!

You love to suck on your fingers and hands and chew on the end of your lovey. With the sucking comes lots of drooling and I think you will probably cut teeth early just like your brother. One thing you still won't suck on is a pacifier. After trying almost every brand out there it just must not be your thing. When you get upset you would rather look around and be bounced on my lap then take a pacifier.

Since switching to exclusively formula, you take around 5-6 ounces each bottle every 3-4 hours during the day. One thing that has improved drastically since starting formula is your sleeping patterns! You go to bed around 6:45-7:15pm and sleep until 3:00-4:00pm, eat a 6 oz bottle, and then sleep again until 7:00-7:30am. This past week you've slept from 7:00am until 5:00-5:30am, eaten, and then slept again until 7:30-8:00am. This is a huge improvement from breastfeeding when you would wake up every 2-3 hours. Poor little guy, you must have been hungry! You usually take one long morning nap (3 hours) and then a little cat nap in the afternoon (1 hr). You still sleep in your sleep sack in your swing, but the swing is now in your own room! One step closer to the crib:)

You still love bath time, but don't enjoy the getting out or drying off. You don't get too upset or seem bothered when you have a wet or poppy diaper. You LOVE to be held facing outwards and you do not like to be cradled unless you are eating or going to sleep. You want to be able to look at everything going on in the world around you!

Besides laughing, smiling, and cooing, you've almost mastered rolling over. You rolled over for the first time the week before I had to go back to work and I'm so glad I didn't miss that! Now, any time we put you on your tummy for tummy time you roll over to your back then we flip you back over and over you roll again. I think you're just trying to get out of tummy time. You are also trying really hard to roll from your back to your front and it won't be long now.

Other big news...I spent my first night away from you. I don't think you even cared since Memaw and Pampaw spoiled you so much. I also went back to work this month. I miss you like crazy when I'm gone, but it's so great to see your face at the end of the work day. You greet me with HUGE smiles and you jabber and tell me all about your day. At least that's what I think you're telling me.

You've gone lots of places this month including a farm, safety day with brother, out to lunches and dinners, and you even hosted your first engagement party at the house. Although you were quite the party pooper and slept through most of it.

Here's to 3 months! You are so loved little one.
