5 on Friday

Let's do this!

The great thing about going to the gym regularly is that you actually start to miss it when you aren't able to go a day. I love these 4 simple rules.

A Lucky's Market recently opened in our town and I love it. They have natural, organic, and locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats, along with all the other typical grocery store items. They remind me of a Whole Foods, but without the high price tag. I went a few weeks ago with my friend Alissa and got all the food below including steaks AND ribs for $21.00! There are currently only 5 Lucky's throughout the US, but it looks like they have several opening soon. I had no idea how to cook the boneless ribs I bought, but I found a recipe online and they were amazing. I will post it next week!

GroopDealz has been killing it lately. I've only ordered a few things from them in the past, but I can't wait for my current purchases to arrive. I ordered this necklace and a chunky infinity scarf like the one in the pic except in gray. The deal on the exact one I ordered expired, so the picture of that actual one is no longer online.

A little Asian restaurant in our own had the MOST amazing idea ever and tempura fried spinach. Y'all. This "salad" is the bomb. Do people still say that? I do. What makes it though is the wasbi-ginger dipping sauce. Eating this is like eating little wisps of deliciousness. Although the spinach is tempura battered, you don't feel overly full or stuffed afterwards and think of all the leafy greens you're eating!

This month has seemed like both the longest and shortest all in one. I'm ready for the fresh start of March tomorrow! I'm not however, ready for the pretty big snowstorm coming our way Sunday. To me, March=Spring=No snow.

Happy Friday! Hope this last day of February treats you well.

Jack {8 months}

Jackers. Happy 8 months big boy! I know I said last month that you started lots of new things, but I think this month you've learned even more!
Even from last month to this month, I've noticed a change in your face and little by little that baby face is slowly fading away.
What's not fading however, is your chubby little cheeks! I swear I could just kiss those things all day. I've never seen a baby with such kissable cheeks!
You still have just two little bottom teeth and you like to do this weird/cute lip thing where you rub it against your teeth. You are drooling and mouthing like crazy and I will be so realized when those 2 top teeth poke through!
With only 2 teeth, eating table food is a little difficult although you want to so bad. You're loving mandarin oranges right now and easily go through 2 of the Dole fruit cups. You still get a container of fruit and vegetable baby food at dinner and I think you're not too fond of squash as the last few times you've had it you fused and didn't eat it all. You also tried Mum Mums this month, yogurt melts, and apple and ginger organic teething biscuits. You still take 6oz bottles every 4-5 hours, including 2 bottles in the middle of the night.
Speaking of the middle of the night, you are still waking up twice. You go to bed between 7-7:30pm and wake up at 11:30 and 3:00ish. You usually wake up at 5:30 or 6, take a small 4 oz bottle and then sleep until 7:30am. Naps are going strong, and you usually take one longer nap in the afternoon and a shorter one in the morning.
You're still in size 2 Pampers, but once we use this box it's on to size 3. Most 6 month clothes are too small and you're wearing mostly 6-12 months. Even some 9m clothing is too small, especially one piece outfits-it looks like you are wearing high waters. I just bought you a new 9m romper and you wore it once before it became too short. Most of your sleepers are 12m.
Right after you turned 7 months, you consistently started saying Dada. Of course. You also say something that sounds very close to hi and hey. One morning Ben came out of his room and we both swear you said "hi, dada." It was so clear that Ben replied, "I'm not dada silly." I'm sure it was a fluke, and that you didn't really know what you were saying. Or you're a genius. That's probably more likely. You've said momma several times, usually when I'm feeding you.
This month you really mastered crawling and going from crawling and laying down to sitting up. Several times I've come to get you in the morning and you're just sitting there in your crib waiting for me:) We have to close doors behind us now as you will crawl out of your room and go exploring around the house. Full on baby proofing is happening next weekend!
You are also trying to pull up on everything including the bath tub, which scares me to death. It won't be long until we say goodbye to the duck tub and move you to the big tub.
You started daycare full time this month and I know MeMaw misses watching you. Of course you got a cold your first week complete with a runny nose and you DO NOT like having your nose wiped. There were two nights in a row where you were so congested and just couldn't get comfortable. You woke up almost every hour on the hour which made every one tired come morning. You had your first dose of tylenol to help you get more comfortable and it seemed to help.
You continue to be our happy, loveable baby. You love to jump in your exercauser or Johnny Jump and when people hold you, you love to bounce up and down and kick those little legs. You've also started moving and shaking your head when music comes on or when we sing to you.
Try not to get so big this next month. Love you my sweet baby.

5 on Friday {On a Monday}

Linking up late, but better late then never. Right?

Friday night our niece spent the night and her and Ben helped give Jack a bath. He was loving all the attention and Kylee and Ben thought they were so big.

On Friday our little Jackers turned 8 months old. I know I'm biased, but come on. Could you not eat him up? Gobble, gobble.

We are doing a something at work called Secret Someone. We each pulled a name and the goal is to send the person little things that let them know they're special. It doesn't have to cost $ and could even be a little handwritten note. I had this on my desk Friday. I think J and Ben were just as excited as I was when I brought these home.

I know, a bathroom selfie. Forgive me. 2 weeks ago I got my hair chopped off after drooling over this cut. It doesn't look like exactly what I was going for, but overall I like it...I have also decided that I'm definitely growing it back.

This weekend was the perfect mix of busy and lazy. Saturday we had soccer, lunch with my MIL, and then I went with my friend Alissa and the other bridesmaids to pick out our dresses. We found the one and I can't wait to wear it on her special day. Sunday was spent lounging around and ended with dinner at our favorite local pizza place. Their vegetarian is awesome although all those black olives you see get picked off immediately. Little man just couldn't make it through dinner.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Life Lately

Before I recap what we've been up to lately, I just have to say how saddened and sickened I am about the end to this Amber Alert that was issued last night in my state. This happened about 3 hours from where we live and literally within minutes from where some of my friends with small children live. You literally have to keep your children right next to you at all times it seems. Hopefully this family can find some kind of comfort and peace.

Moving on....let's focus on something more positive shall we?

Valentine's night we enjoyed a romantic dinner of HyVee Chinese food followed by cupcakes (also from HyVee). We gave the boys their little Valentine goodies and I enjoyed my GORGEOUS roses from my husband that he had delivered to my office at work.

Saturday morning Ben had his very first soccer practice. I was a little worried that he would kick the ball as hard as he could and then have to chase after it up and down the field. He definitely surprised me when he not only had great ball control, but was also the very last kid to not get his ball stolen from other players during a pretend game.

Last night we enjoyed the 63 degree weather by taking a walk in our neighborhood. Ben got to try out his new scooter that he got for his birthday. It makes sparks when you put the brakes on and he thinks that is just the coolest! Of course Jack was laid back as usual and took a little snooze.
(notice the snow in the background)

And lastly, bath time has become quite the little danger trap as this one thinks he's now big enough to climb out of the tub. At 7 months. Lord help me.

What have you all been up to?

5 on Friday

Happy Happy Valentine's Day! This 5 on Friday is all about L-O-V-E.

The fabulous hosts of this link up requested everyone to dedicate their first pic on this weeks 5 on Friday to Teddy using the #Team Teddy. Teddy is an ADORABLE 7 month old little boy who was diagnosed Menke's Syndrome also known as "kinky hair syndrome." It's a rare and fatal genetic disease that affects one in 450,000 children in the US. To learn more about it click here. As a mom with a 7 month old myself, you can imagine this hit pretty close to home and I can't imagine what this family must be going through. So today, Jack's giving a big ole shout out to Teddy.

I know there are a lot of mixed feelings about Valentine's Day, but I love it! The love, hearts, and ridiculous priced flowers, I love it all! Yes, you should tell people you love them everyday, but sometimes it's nice to just take a day and really focus on it.

If you need a last minute Valentine craft, don't forget to check out these cards I made with the boys.

Ben had his Valentine party at school yesterday. Jack also had his party...well as much of a party as you can have with a room full of infants. There were games, ice cream sundaes, and then the kids got to put their Valentine's in all their friend's boxes.

And whether you choose to celebrate this day or not, we wish you LOTS of love this Valentine's Day!

No Fire Needed Smores

A Smore is one of those perfect little treats. But there's nothing more disappointing then getting your graham cracker and chocolate all ready to stack only to find your marshmallow has burst into flames and turned that horrible charcoal black color.

If that's happened to you one too many times or if you are craving a Smore in the dead of Winter, this recipe is for you!

What you'll need:
-graham crackers
-milk chocolate chips
-Marshmallow fluff

Begin by breaking the graham crackers into single rectangles. You can do as many as you can eat, just make sure you have an even number.

Next, spread a layer of marshmallow fluff on half of the rectangles.

Place the other half of the rectangles on top of the ones with the fluff.

Using a microwave, melt chocolate chips in a bowl until smooth. (I've found that melting chocolate in the microwave keeps it melty and soft vs. on the stove where it tends to harden quickly) I used 1/4 of a bag of chocolate chips and made 11 Smores and had lots of chocolate left.

Dip the top of the graham cracker fluff sandwich into the chocolate and shake of the excess.

Place the Smores on a cookie rack or cooling rack. If you don't have one of those, a plate will work fine too:) Place in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.
These are best if you eat them within a few minutes of taking them out of the fridge. I don't recommend eating these the next day as the graham cracker starts to become soggy.

Jack {First Snow}

Bundled up and ready to see what the fuss is all about!

I think he likes it!
(And because I know my mom will say something, he was only outside for less than 2 minutes. Literally.)

And we can't forget big brother.

Looks like Ben likes the snow now a lot more than he did during his first snow.
