5 on Friday

Let's do this!

One.
The great thing about going to the gym regularly is that you actually start to miss it when you aren't able to go a day. I love these 4 simple rules.

Two.
Lucky's Market opened recently and I went for the first time last week. They have natural, organic, and locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats, along with all the other typical grocery store items. They reminded me of Whole Foods, but without the super high price tag. I got all the food below including steaks AND ribs for $21.00! There are only 5 Lucky's throughout the US, but it looks like they have several opening soon. Even though I got a great deal on boneless ribs, I had no idea how to cook them. I found this recipe online and they were amazing.

Three.
GroopDealz has been killing it lately. I've only gotten a few things from them in the past, but I can't wait for my current purchases to arrive. I ordered this necklace and a chunky infinity scarf like the one below except in gray.

Four.
I tried a new dish at our favorite Asian restaurant and it was delicious. This "salad" is made up of tempura fried spinach and comes with a wasbi-ginger dipping sauce. Oh yes. Eating it was like eating little wisps of deliciousness and although the spinach is battered, you don't feel overly full or stuffed afterwards. And think of all the leafy greens you're eating :)

Five.
February has seemed like the longest and shortest month all in one. I'm ready for the fresh start of March tomorrow! What I'm not ready for however is the big snowstorm that's coming our way on Sunday.

Happy Friday! I hope this last day of February treats you well.

Jack: 8 Month Update

Jackers. Happy 8 months big boy! I know I said last month that you started lots of new things, but I think you've learned even more this month!

Even since last month, I've noticed that little by little your baby face is slowly fading away.

What's not fading however is your chubby little cheeks! I swear I could just kiss those things all day long. I've never seen a baby with such kissable cheeks!

You still have just two little bottom teeth and you like to do this thing where you rub your lip against your teeth. You are drooling and mouthing like crazy and I will be so glad when those 2 top teeth poke through!

With only 2 teeth, eating table food is a little difficult although you want to eat everything so badly. You love mandarin oranges and easily go through two of the Dole fruit cups. You still get a container of fruit and vegetable baby food at dinner and you're not too fond of squash. You also tried Mum Mums, yogurt melts, and apple ginger organic teething biscuits. You still take 6oz bottles every 4-5 hours, including 2 bottles in the middle of the night.

Speaking of the middle of the night... you're still waking up twice. You go to bed between 7-7:30pm and wake up at 11:30pm and 3:00am. You usually wake up in the morning at 5:30-6:00am, take a small 4 oz bottle, and then go back to sleep until 7:30am. Naps are going strong and you usually take one longer nap in the afternoon and a shorter one in the morning.
You're still in size 2 Pampers, but once we use this box it's on to size 3. You wear mostly 6-12 month clothes and your sleepers are 12 month. Some 9 month clothing is too small, especially one piece outfits. I just bought you a new 9 month romper and you wore it once before it became too short.

Right after you turned 7 months, you started saying Dada consistently. Of course. You also say something that sounds very close to hi and hey. One morning Ben came out of his room and we both swear you said "hi, dada." It was so clear that Ben replied, "I'm not dada silly." I'm sure it was a fluke or you're a genius. You've said momma several times, usually when I'm feeding you.

You've really mastered crawling and going from crawling or laying down to sitting up. Several times I've come to get you in the morning and you're just sitting there in your crib waiting for me. We have to close doors behind us now since you will crawl out of your room and go exploring around the house. Full on baby proofing is happening next weekend! You're also trying to pull up on everything including the bath tub which scares me to death. It won't be long until we say goodbye to the duck tub and move you to the big tub.

You started daycare full time this month and I know MeMaw misses watching you. Of course you got a cold your first week complete with a runny nose and you DO NOT like having your nose wiped. There were two nights in a row where you were so congested and just couldn't get comfortable. You woke up almost every hour on the hour which made for a very tired morning. You also had your first dose of Tylenol to help you get more comfortable and it seemed to help.

You continue to be our happy, loveable baby. You love to jump in your Exercauser or Johnny Jump and when people hold you, you love to bounce up and down and kick your legs. You've also started moving and shaking your head when music comes on or when we sing to you.

Try not to get so big this next month. Love you my sweet baby.

5 on Friday + Weekend Recap

On a Monday. But better late than never, right?

One.
Our niece spent the night on Friday and Ben and her helped give Jack a bath. He was loving all the attention and Kylee and Ben thought they were so big.

Two.
This little guy turned 8 months old. I know I'm biased but could you not just eat him up?

Three.
We're doing a thing at work called Secret Someone. We each drew a name and the goal is to send the person little things that let them know they're special. It doesn't have to cost $ and could even be a little handwritten note. I found this on my desk Friday.

Four.
I know, a terrible bathroom selfie. Forgive me. 2 weeks ago I got my hair chopped off after drooling over this cut. It doesn't look exactly like what I was going for, but overall I'm happy with it. And I've already decided that I'm growing it back out :)

Five.
This weekend was the perfect mix of busyness and laziness. Saturday Ben had soccer practice, we went to lunch with my MIL, and then I went with my friend Alissa and the other bridesmaids to pick out our dresses. We found a dress we all like and it even has pockets! Sunday was spent lounging around and ended with dinner at our favorite local pizza place. Their vegetarian is awesome although all those black olives get picked off my slice immediately. Jack was so tired he couldn't even make it through dinner.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Moved By Love

A mother's love for her country and her child.

The unconditional love of a parent. This one really gets me in the feels.

The pure love from a pet.

His love for all of us.

Life Lately

Before I recap what we've been up to lately, I just want to say how sad and sickened I am about the end to this Amber Alert that was issued in my state last night. This happened about 3 hours from where we live and literally within minutes from where some of my friends with small children live. It seems like you literally have to keep your children right next to you at all times it seems. I hope this family can find some comfort and peace.

Alright...let's try to focus on something more positive shall we?

J had the most beautiful roses delivered to my office for Valentine's Day.  That night we enjoyed a romantic dinner of Hy-Vee Chinese followed by cupcakes (also from Hy-Vee) and we gave the boys their goodies.

Saturday morning Ben had his very first soccer practice. I was a little worried that he would kick the ball as hard as he could and then have to chase it up and down the field. He definitely surprised me and not only had great ball control, but he was also the very last kid to not get his ball stolen from other players during a pretend game.

Last night we enjoyed the 63 degree weather with a walk in our neighborhood. Ben got to try out his new scooter that he got for his birthday. It makes sparks when you put the brakes on and he thinks that is just the coolest! Of course Jack was laid back as usual and took a little snooze.

Last but not least bath time has become quite the little danger trap ever since this one thinks he can climb out of the tub. At 7 months. Lord help me.

5 on Friday: Valentine's Edition

Happy Valentine's Day! This 5 on Friday is all about L-O-V-E.

One.
The fabulous hosts of this link up requested everyone to dedicate their first picture on this week's 5 to Teddy using the hashtag " #TeamTeddy." Teddy is an ADORABLE 7 month old boy who was diagnosed with Menke's Syndrome which is also known as "kinky hair syndrome." It's a rare and fatal genetic disease that affects 1 in 450,000 children in the US. To learn more about it click here. As a mom to a 7 month old, Teddy's story hit pretty close to home and I can't imagine what this family must be going through. So today Jack's giving a big ole shout out to Teddy.

Two.
I know there's lots of mixed feelings about Valentine's Day, but I love it! Red and pink, hearts, and ridiculous priced flowers, I love it all! I know you should tell people you love them every day, but sometimes it's nice to just take a day and really focus on it.

Three.
If you need a last minute Valentine, don't forget to check out these cards I made with the boys.

Four.
Ben had his Valentine party at school yesterday complete with games, ice cream sundaes, and passing out Valentines. Jack also had his party...as much of a party as you can have with a room full of infants.

Five
These two wish you LOTS of love this Valentine's Day!

No Fire Needed S'mores

I love S'mores but there's nothing more disappointing then getting your graham cracker and chocolate all ready only to find your marshmallow has burst into flames and turned charcoal black. If that's happened to you one too many times or you're craving a S'more in the dead of Winter, I've got a recipe just for you!

What You Need:
-1 box of graham crackers
-4 ounces of milk chocolate chips
-1/4 cup marshmallow fluff

What To Do:
1. Break the graham crackers into single rectangles. You can make as many as you want, just make sure you have an even number.

2. Spread a layer of marshmallow fluff on half of the rectangles.

3. Top the fluff side with the other half of the rectangles.

4. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips stirring until smooth. I've found that melting the chocolate in the microwave for short increments and stirring in between keeps it soft and velvety.

5. Dip one side of the graham cracker sandwich into the chocolate and shake of any excess.

6. Place the S'mores on a cookie rack or cooling rack and stick in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.

These are best if you eat them within a few minutes of taking them out of the fridge. I don't recommend eating these the next day as the graham cracker starts to become soggy.

Jack's First Snow

Bundled up and ready to see what the fuss is all about!

I think he likes it!
And because I know my mom will say something, he was only outside for like 2 minutes.

And we can't forget big brother.

Looks like Ben likes the snow a lot more now than he did during his first snow.
