Weekend Recap

Our weekend was jammed packed and filled with lots of time with family and friends which makes for the best kind of weekend.

Saturday morning my sister and I hit up a neighborhood garage sale. I found some great things but my favorite was a yellow ceramic pot that I got for $1! Later in the morning the boys and I headed to an autism awareness walk.

After naps and a trip to the grocery store, it was time for The Glow Run. This was Ben's first race and he was so excited. We ended up walking the 3.1 miles since most of us in our group had little kids and strollers. Ben managed to walk the entire thing with only the occasional piggy back ride. Jack was a trooper and slept through most of it.
Ben loved the medal he got and talked about it the whole way home. He was so tired from such a full day that when we got home he went straight to his room and feel asleep. I wasn't far behind him.

We celebrated my dad's birthday on Sunday and I packed for my week long work trip aka prepare as much in advance for the husband so the kids eat something besides Cheetos for dinner all week.

Hope you're having a great start to the week!

5 on Friday

One.
Let's start with a picture of a baby that's not mine. I saw this online somewhere and it tickled me so much.

Two.
When momma's out of town for work, the baby gets a bath in the sink. By the look on his face Jack thought it was the best thing ever.

Three.
I finally bought all the ingredients to make these Strawberry Shortcake Bars from Iowa Girl Eats. I have made so many of her recipes and have get to make something I didn't like.

Four.
Ben started a new preschool a few weeks ago and to say we love it is an understatement. I'll share why we made the switch in a few weeks, but Ben is learning so many things and is actually excited to go to school every day. One of the best parts? His teacher was friends with Ben's dad growing up. J grew up in a very small town so the chance that this happened is pretty crazy.

Five.
Anyone else relate to this?

What are your plans this weekend?

Easter 2014

This Easter was one of the best yet. We went to church, hosted Easter lunch for my side of the family, and then traveled to J's aunt's house for dinner and another egg hunt.

I love Pottery Barn's Easter baskets and ordered Jack the white one to match Ben's. When I got it in the mail this week I realized I ordered Jack the large sized basket. I ended up just turning the embroidered names to the back and made Jack's the little one. I plan to order Ben the larger basket for next year so they'll match.

I love Jack's little hand reaching for his goodies.

For the table I decided to keep it really simple. I picked up these plates from Kohl's at the last minute.

After lunch, the boys had an egg hunt in our yard.

J helped Jack collect eggs using a net :)

It was almost 90 degrees on Sunday so after the egg hunt we came inside and Ben and my dad dyed some eggs.

That afternoon we drove to J's aunt's house. She lives in the country and has an enormous yard that perfect for egg hunts.

Jack was content to just watch the older kids. Next year he'll be out there with them running around like a crazy man.

Jack: 10 Month Update

Jackers Snackers Crackers. Not sure why we call you this, but we do:) On Monday you turned 10 months old. Time is passing at lightening speed and it seems as if your "month" birthdays always sneak up on me.

Like every month, you continue to learn so many new things. You don't like to sit still (notice the photos in this post) and you want to walk so bad and you took one step on your own without holding onto anything. I think you scared yourself when you did this and you immediately sat down:) You're a pro at cruising on furniture and crawl almost as fast as we can keep up and you've almost mastered standing up without having to pull up on anything.

You wave hi and goodbye and you put the phone to your ear as if you're talking on it. You also love to play peek-a-boo and if I stop playing, you'll grab my hands and push them towards my eyes to keep going. You also like to play a game with your Aunt Natasha where you pretend like you're handing her something and when she reaches for it, you yank it away which makes you laugh and laugh.

You still only have four teeth, but at your 9 month well child check the doctor said he could see other ones ready to poke through. I hope they do it soon because you've started grinding your teeth a little and biting down really hard on everything you put in your mouth.

You eat mostly table foods, but love the baby food pouches and eat those when we're on the go or at restaurants. I've started giving you vegetables first because you won't eat them if you've already eaten your fruit. If you don't like something you push it out of our mouth with your tongue or throw it over the side of your high chair. If I tell you no in a stern voice you get a very sad look and will sometimes put your head down. Once you stuck your bottom lip out and burst into tears which broke my heart and made me cry.

You still love oranges and this month you tried raspberries, blackberries,  and cucumber. You take 7oz bottles every 4-5 hours and usually have a sippy cup of water at each meal as well. You've also started signing "more" and I'm so proud of you! We're working on the sign for drink and eat as well.

At your 9 month check up you weighed a little over 19 lbs which puts you in the 30th percentile. I can't remember how tall you were, but you fell in the 90th percentile for height and 50th percentile for head circumference.

You wear size 3 diapers and will probably be in this size for awhile. You're all over the place in terms of clothing size and it just depends on the brand. Most items are 6-12 month, 9-12 month, and even some 12-18 month.

I'm SO happy to report that sleeping through the night is going so much better. We tried a modified cry it out (let you cry, but not longer than 30 minutes) and after the 2nd night you were sleeping so much better. We pushed your bedtime back a little and you now go to sleep between 8-8:30pm. Sometimes you still wake up between 1:30-3am, take a bottle and then go back to sleep until 7am. There have been quite a few nights though that you haven't woken up at all and slept from 8pm-5am, taken a bottle, and then slept again until 7am.

Bath time is still a fave and for some reason you think it's the perfect place to practice standing on your own without holding onto anything. Of course this makes me a nervous wreck. You also love my iPhone and when you get ahold of it you immediately want me to put music on so you can dance.

You've made a lot of new sounds and ba-ba it's always on repeat. You also really enjoyed blowing raspberries this month. See below:)

Separation anxiety is in full swing. It's less around the house now, but definitely worse with new people. You even cry when your aunts, uncles, or grandparents try to hold you, but you usually get over it pretty quickly or can be easily distracted. Your favorite thing to do when I pick you up is to lay your head on me and say "ohhhh." And just like your brother, you love your blankets and rubbing the silky tag on them.

And last but not least, this is what happens when I don't let you have the camera during these little monthly photo shoots. It's sad and a little comical at the same time.

Love you little Jackers.

Checking In

Hello! Sorry for the unintentional blogging break. Life's been crazier than usual and the real craziness hasn't even started yet. I'll post a full Easter recap along with baby Jack's 10 month update later this week, but for now I'll leave you with this picture from Sunday. I'm in love with the bowties that I ordered from Megan. Make sure to check out her ETSY store here.

Chipotle Copycat: Lime & Cilantro Rice

Did you know that when I was pregnant with Jack I couldn't stand Chipotle? The smell even bothered me. Once Jack was born not only did I start eating Chipotle again but I wanted it all the time.

To avoid breaking the bank by eating Chipotle everyday, I thought I'd recreate one of their signature ingredients, the cilantro lime rice. From the first bite, J proclaimed this recipe was delicious and tasted just like the real deal. I adapted the recipe from Chipotle Fan.

What You Need:
-1 cup of white rice
-2 tsp fresh cilantro
-Juice of half a lime
-1/2 tsp salt

What To Do:
1. Cook the rice according to directions on the box or bag.

2. While the rice is cooking, finely chop the cilantro and squeeze out the juice from half a lime.

3. Mix lime juice, salt, and cilantro together.

4. Slowly pour the liquid mixture over the rice while stirring and fluffing the rice with a fork.

5. Add to burritos, tacos, salads, etc! I made burritos and even wrapped them in foil just like Chipotle.

Enjoy!
