5 on Friday

Let's get right to it.

Oh Chicago. I could totally live there. The weather was beyond beautiful the entire weekend which made the patio sitting and day drinking even more wonderful. Full recap to come next week.

This building was just to our right while eating lunch on Saturday. Any guesses as to what it might be? We ended up asking our waiter and were shocked by his answer. Let's make this a fun little game:) What do you think it is? I'll let you know in next week's 5.

Jack's birthday is less than a month away and I have NO idea about what kind of party I want to do. I need to get on the details and invites ASAP. I guess me and Pinterest will be having a date later.

Not only does the beginning of Summer mark warm weather and time at the pool, but it also means Starbucks Valencia Orange is back! 16oz is only 90 calories and the best part, you can buy it in stores this year!

Ben has been obsessed with Memory and has beat either J or myself every time we play. And I'm ok with it.

Happy Friday!

5 on Friday

Happy Friday! I am so ready and excited for this weekend! Not only is it a 3 day weekend, but as you're reading this I'm off to Chicago for a bachelorette party for my friend Alissa. We plan to play tourist, eat amazing Chi Town pizza, and most importantly celebrate the bride to be. And drink wine.

Let's get this started...

My friend Melissa, who just happens to be an amazing hairstylist, gave me a quick trim and some bangs. I know the word bangs makes some people freak out, but I actually think I look better when I have them. I began growing mine out a couple of years ago, but I'm tired of always tucking them behind my ear. My angled bob had also grown out quite a bit so I had her even out the front length with the back.

We watched our nieces a couple of weekends ago and apparently things got a little too loud and wild for Jack. He grabbed his bottle and made his way under our side table for shelter. I couldn't stop laughing.

I still need to post about Mother's Day. It included this sweet little manicure. Ben did surprisingly well for a 5 year old. Whose right handed and painting with his left.

I won a $50 Boden gift card from Kilee over at One Little Momma. The gift card came in adorable wrapping with a little shopping list pad and some seeds to plant. Isn't that so cute! What a great giveaway.

This is going to be my motto this weekend. Except maybe the dark alleys.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and thank you to all of those serving and who have served in our Armed Forces!

Jack {11 months}

Jack. You are one month away from turning a year old. This can't even be possible. There's a reason why people say time goes by in the blink of an eye. This month's pictures have to be the best yet. You'll be hard pressed to find a great one in the group, but they are SO representative of the current stage you are in. You can't be bothered with sitting to take pictures; there are just too many places to go and explore.
The picture above is what happens when we say, "How big is Jack?" You raise your arms up high in the air and give a big ole smile. This month you've also learned to point to your hair when asked and you love to brush your hair and other people's when we give you the brush.
The biggest accomplish is that you started walking at 10 1/2 months. You were pretty unsteady and unsure at first, but now you stand right up wherever you are without pulling up on anything and take off. It's so weird to watch you toddling around the house.
You've gained another top tooth this month for a grand total of 5. You eat mostly table food and still love fruit. This month you tried mango, but weren't really a fan and your favorites are blackberries, raspberries, and mandarin oranges. You take 5, 7oz bottles per day and after your first birthday we'll start to introduce cow's milk.
I'm not sure about your weight, but I'd guess you're close to 20 pounds, which also means you'll be getting a new car seat. We'll know for sure at your well check visit next month. You're still in size 3 diapers and wear mostly 12m clothes, but some 6-12 and 12-18.
Sleeping continues to go well (knock on wood). You go to bed between 7:30-8:00pm and wake up once or twice in the middle of the night, but you aso sleep through the night some nights. You love to sleep in and during the week I have to wake you up at 7:30 or 8:00am. You take 2 naps a day, but I can tell the morning ones are getting shorter and I don't think it will be long before you drop that one. I'm still rocking you at night and I love that time together. Sometimes you don't really want to be rocked and would rather just lay in your crib. Other times you fall asleep right away and I love to just hold you and look at you. I know these moments are going to end far too soon.
Bath time is still a favorite. We've officially gotten rid of the duck tub and it's the big tub all the way. You continue to stand throughout most of the bath and do pretty well with not falling. You think it's so funny to drop things over the side of the tub, and unlike last month when I told you no and you cried, this month you laugh and laugh. Uh oh.
You're still saying, dada, hi, hey, and although you've said momma before, you're saying it much more now. I LOVE it. You are also understanding so much more and can follow simple directions as well as follow my point. You LOVE to point as well and have really gotten into books. You will bring me a book and then crawl up into my lap for me to read to you.
You're a dancing fool and your brother and you love to have dance parties. Speaking of your brother, it's so neat to see your relationship change and grow. You love playing chase together and Ben likes to read books to you and tell you stories. Whenever he's in his room you have to be in there with him. If he shuts the door to keep you out, you get the saddest look and start crying. I'm so glad you both love each other SO much.
You go to a sitter during the day (a co-worker of mine who quit to stay home with her baby) and you love her. When we get to her house you start waving hi before we even walk through the door. It makes me happy that you are so happy to go there.
Let's agree to slow down time this month ok? I promise I'm going to soak up every minute I can with you before you turn one and you promise not to grow overnight anymore. I love you so so much.

A Little Life Recap

Since I obviously haven't been blogging, what have we been up to?

Living room dance parties

Park time with cousins and friends

Intense Memory tournaments

Using utensils like a champ...and offering to share already chewed food

Holding brother against his will at Mexican restaurants

T-ball in 90 degree weather and 40 degree weather. All within one week. In May.

And watching brother play t-ball, getting bored, and taking off walking across the path. nbd.

And last but not least. This has absolutely nothing to do with our life right now, but every time I read this it makes me smile. I'm convinced if Moths were bigger they would totally eat us.

Well Hello.

Long time no blog. As usual, life's been crazy busy. When it comes down to my children eating and having clean clothes or blogging you can guess which one has to go. Who needs clean clothes. I kid.

Although this will post in the morning, I'm currently writing it from my hotel room. I'm at a workshop out of town, but thankfully I'm only away from home one night. I have to say I'm actually learning a lot and have tons of ideas of things I want to take back and utilize with clients. I am a little sad that my normal travel and work buddy Alissa didn't come. It feels weird having only one bed and no one to talk to. Miss you girl!

I'll catch up more with tomorrow's 5 on Friday, but for now I'll leave you with this little gem.

Go be extraordinary.

5 on Friday

Linking up with the ladies for another 5!

All I can think about lately is how I want to have long hair again. I really really want it. Do you sense my desperation?

I try to avoid Walmart whenever possible so sometimes I happen to miss cool things that come out. Like these Huggies Clutch and Clean. Unlike the hard refillable containers that always pop open on me causing the wipes to dry out, these zippered pouches stay shut and let you refill them by just unzipping the pouch and sticking the wipes in. Bonus? It holds way more than the typical hard case. And how cute are the designs?!
*Huggies has no idea who I am. I wasn't compensated to write this, I just really love this product.

I made Iowa Girl Eats Strawberry Shortcake No Bake Treat Bars last week for my work trip. My grocery store didn't have de-hydrated strawberries so I used a mixture of dried berries. They turned out pretty good although next time I'd leave the dried fruit out all together and just eat them plain:)

Easter weekend we pulled up all the weeds and dead leaves in our flower beds and put new mulch down. The project ended up taking waaayyy longer than expected and more mulch than we imagined (20 bags total). It was well worth it though and now everything is starting to sprout up. I can't wait until our sad little bush tree blossoms.

This little guy is walking at 10 months old. And not just one step. Across rooms. The other night he had pulled up on the table and then decided he wanted to take off walking across the living room. That would be why all my pictures of him lately are blurry. The kid does not stay still.

Have a fabulous weekend friends!

The Day My Son Learned To Take A Selfie

I know, he's awesome.
