5 on Friday

Let's get right to it.

One.
Chicago was a lot of fun and I could totally live there. The weather was beautiful the entire weekend which made the patio sitting and day drinking even more wonderful. Full recap to come next week.

Two.
This building was across the street from where we ate lunch one day. We tried to figure out what the building was and finally ended up asking our waiter. We were shocked by his answer. I'd love to know what you think it is? I'll give you the answer in next week's 5 on Friday.

Three.
Jack's birthday is less than a month away and I have NO idea about what kind of party I want to do. I need to get the and invites out asap. I guess Pinterest and I will be spending some time together later today.

Four.
Not only does the beginning of Summer mark warm weather and time at the pool, but it also means Starbucks Valencia Orange is back! 16oz is only 90 calories and the best part is that you can buy it in stores this year!

Five.
Ben has been obsessed with Memory and has beat either J or myself every single time we play.

Happy Friday!

5 on Friday

Happy Friday! I am so ready and excited for this weekend! Not only is it a 3 day weekend, but as you're reading this I'm off to Chicago for my friend Alissa's bachelorette party. We plan to do all the tourist things, eat amazing deep dish pizza, and most importantly celebrate the bride to be.

One.
My friend Melissa, who just happens to be an amazing hairstylist, gave me a quick trim and some bangs. I know the word bangs makes some people freak out, but I actually think I look better with them. I grew mine out a couple of years ago, but got tired of always tucking them behind my ear. The angled bob I had had also grown out quite a bit so Melissa evened out the front length with the back.

Two.
We watched our nieces a couple of weekends ago and apparently things got a little too loud and wild for Jack. He grabbed his bottle and made his way under our side table for protection. I couldn't stop laughing.

Three.
I still need to post about Mother's Day, but it included this sweet little manicure from Ben. He did surprisingly well for a 5 year old who was painting with his left hand when he's right handed :)

Four.
I won a $50 Boden gift card from Kilee over at One Little Momma. The gift card came in adorable wrapping with a little shopping list pad and some seeds to plant. What a great giveaway!

Five.
This is going to be my motto this weekend. Except for the dark alleys.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and thank you to all of those who have served in our Armed Forces!

Jack: 11 Month Update

Jack. You are one month away from turning a year old. This can't be possible. This month's pictures have to be the best yet. You'll be hard pressed to find a great one in the group, but they are so representative of the current stage you are in. You just can't be bothered with sitting still to take pictures.

The picture above is what happens when we say, "How big is Jack?" You raise your arms up in the air and give a big ole smile. You've also learned to point to your hair when asked and you love to brush your hair and other people's.

Your biggest accomplish is that you started walking at 10 1/2 months. You were pretty unsteady at first, but now you go from sitting to standing without pulling up on anything and then just take off walking. It's so surreal to watch you toddling around the house.

You've gained another top tooth this month for a grand total of 5. You eat mostly table food and still love fruit the most. This month you tried mango but weren't really a fan. Your favorites are blackberries, raspberries, and mandarin oranges. You take 5, 7oz bottles per day and after your first birthday we'll start to introduce cow's milk.

I'm not sure about your weight, but I'd guess you're close to 20 pounds which also means you'll be getting a new car seat soon. You're still in size 3 diapers and wear mostly 12 month clothes, but some 6-12 month and 12-18 month as well.

Sleeping at night is continuing to go well (knock on wood). You go to bed between 7:30-8:00pm and wake up once or twice in the middle of the night, but you've also been sleeping through the night some nights. You love to sleep in and during the week I have to wake you up at 7:30am or 8:00am. You take 2 naps a day, but the morning ones are getting shorter and I don't think it will be long before you drop that one. I still rock you at night and I love our time together. Sometimes you don't really want to be rocked and would rather just lay in your crib. Other times you fall asleep right away as I'm rocking you and I love to just hold and look at you. I know these moments are going to soon so I'm soaking them in.

Bath time is still your favorite. We've officially gotten rid of the duck tub and you sit in the big tub although you continue to stand throughout most of your bath. You think it's so funny to drop things over the side of the tub, and unlike last month when I told you no and you cried, this month you laugh and laugh. I'm in trouble.

You're still saying, dada, hi, hey, and although you've said momma before, you say it all the time now and it's so precious. You also understand so much more and can follow simple directions as well as follow my point. You love to point things and are really into books. You'll bring me a book and then crawl up into my lap for me to read to you.

You are a dancing fool and your brother and you love to listen to music and have dance parties. Speaking of your brother, it's so neat to see your relationship change and grow. You love playing chase together and Ben likes to read books to you and tell you stories. Whenever he's in his room you have to be in there with him. If he shuts the door to keep you out, you get the saddest look and start crying. I'm so glad you both love each other so much.

You go to a sitter during the day (a coworker of mine who quit to stay home with her baby) and you just love her. When we get to her house you start waving hi before we even walk through the door. It makes me happy that you are so happy to go there.

Let's agree to slow down time this next month, ok? I promise I'm going to soak up every minute I can with you before you turn one and you promise me not to grow overnight anymore. I love you so much.

A Little Life Recap

Here's what we've been up to lately.

Living room dance parties.

Park time with cousins and friends.

Intense games of Memory.

Using utensils like a champ...and offering to share already chewed up food.

Holding brother against his will at Mexican restaurants.

T-ball games in 90 degree weather and 40 degree weather. All within one week.

And this has absolutely nothing to do with our life right now but every time I read this it makes me smile. I'm convinced if moths were bigger they would totally eat us.

5 on Friday

Linking up with the ladies for another 5 on Friday!

One.
Lately all I can think about is how I want to have long hair again. Like really really bad.
(Then)

(Now)

Two.
I try to avoid going to Walmart unless I have to so sometimes I miss out on cool things like this Huggies Clutch and Clean pouch. Unlike the hard refillable containers that always pop open on me causing the wipes to dry out, these zippered pouches stay shut and let you refill them by just unzipping the pouch and sticking new wipes in. And how cute are the designs?!

Three.
I made Iowa Girl Eats Strawberry Shortcake No Bake Treat Bars last week. My grocery store didn't have dehydrated strawberries so I used a mixture of dried blueberries and cranberries. They turned out pretty good although next time I'd leave the dried fruit out all together :)

Four.
Easter weekend we pulled up all the weeds and dead leaves in our flower beds and put new mulch down. The project ended up taking waayy longer than expected and more mulch than we imagined (20 bags total). It was well worth it though and now that everything is starting to sprout it looks so much better.

Five.
This little guy is WALKING at 10 months old. And not just one step. Across rooms. The other night he pulled up on the table and then decided he wanted to take off walking across the living room. And he never stops which is why all my pictures of him lately are blurry.

Have a fabulous weekend friends!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Here's the highlights from ours.

We enjoyed beautiful weather all weekend although I would have been okay with more Spring like temperatures than Summer.

Friday night I went to dinner with some people from work for our boss' birthday.

Ben had his first T-Ball game on Saturday morning and he did so good for his first time. He scored 2 runs although no one keeps score. Trust me it's a good thing. Kids ran past bases, tried to tag someone out who was on their own team, and one kid on the opposing team hit the ball and ran straight to the dug out:)

Saturday night and Sunday were spent cleaning the house and running errands. Sunday night we went over to my parents for BBQ and Ben took 200 photos on my iPhone. I wish I was kidding.

Some of his masterpieces.

And last but not least, today is J and I's anniversary. I think we're going to dinner tonight and then after we plan to pop open a bottle of champagne we brought back from our trip to Italy 2 years ago.
