5 on Friday

This week has been a rough one. Jack had a fever most of the week from what I thought was just teething and a little cold. I took him to the doctor and it turns out he had an ear infection. Now that he's on antibiotics he's doing much better and thankfully his fever is gone. On top of a sick baby, work has been crazy busy hosting our annual conference, and I also helped with lunches during teacher appreciation at Ben's school.

I'm glad the week's just about over and we can focus on having fun tonight and this weekend!  Let's get to my 5 for the week.

One.
I wore this sweater and necklace for the conference and there's something I love about the combination of rose gold and royal blue.

Two.
I had a client meeting on Wednesday morning two hours away which meant I had to leave really early. Although I was glad when the sun finally came up, I wasn't so happy about all the fog that was left. Thankfully I only had to drive through it for about 15 minutes. And I was stopped at a gas station for this pick.

Three.
Remember how I told you I helped with lunches during teacher appreciation week? I also put together gifts for the teacher's who have October birthdays. Thank God for Target!

Four.

Five.
I hope you all have a wonderful Halloween, are able to stay warm, and that you get to eat lots of candy! It's supposed to be 28 degrees tonight so we'll definitely be bundling up as we go Trick or Treating.

How a Caterpillar (Almost) Ruined 1st Grade

Yesterday I posted this picture and how a caterpillar just like this one almost ruined 1st grade. Here's what went down...

Picture me in first grade, missing my bottom tooth, wearing awesome spandex shorts, and white Keds. It was recess and all of first grade was outside playing when I spotted a caterpillar about to get squished by some wild boys running around.

Being the kind little kid I was, I picked it up, held it for a few minutes (no doubt admiring it's furriness) and sat it in the grass...or so I thought.

Well I guess the bug didn't want to leave so instead of going in the grass, the caterpillar somehow ended up stuck on the back side of my shorts. Do you see where this is going? My sweet little first grade self went to sit down and ended up squishing the bug all over my butt. And that cute furriness, it turned into a huge itchy mess. On my ass.

I had to walk to the office with bug all over my butt and call my mom who had to bring me a change of clothes. Did I mention I was also hysterically crying the whole time? And that is how a caterpillar almost ruined 1st grade.

Weekend Recap

Well...this weekend didn't end up going quite as we planned, but we made the best of it and managed to enjoy the almost 90 degree weather. Only in the midwest can it be 50 degrees one day and 90 the next.

Friday night my in-laws wanted to keep the boys so J and I did what every other young crazy couple does on a Friday night; we got in our pjs, ate Chipotle on the couch, and rented The Purge Anarchy. Neither of us really love scary movies, but I guess we were in the Halloween spirit. Anyone else talk through scary movies to help you feel better?

Saturday I was up early cleaning and organizing our garage. By the end I was sweaty and disgusting, but I'm so glad it's done.

While I was cleaning, I saw this little guy. Remind me to tell you the story of how one of these almost ruined first grade for me.

The boys came home just as I finished the garage so we played outside and they managed to drag out every outdoor toy I had just organized and put away.

Have you all tried this cracked black pepper turkey breast. It is really good and a nice change from the regular ole turkey.

We had originally planned to go to the zoo on Sunday, but the minute I got Jack out of his crib I knew he had a fever. He had slept great through the night and was playing and (eating) as usual so I think he might be teething. Between the fever and the sudden heat wave, we decided to save the zoo for next weekend.  We headed to our favorite Mexican place for lunch along with half of the town. Although it took forever to get our food, the boys enjoyed feeding the fish and Ben enjoyed a virgin strawberry daiquiri.

After lunch we came home and carved pumpkins. Jack was both terrified and bored during the whole process.

Ben painted that little pumpkin for Jack, even though it's quite terrifying to look at.

5 on Friday

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have something wonderful planned for the weekend but before the weekend can officially begin, let's recap  my 5 things from the week.

One.
I reorganized my closet and did a major purge. Did you know we've all been organizing our closets the wrong way? I'll do a full post on this next week and hopefully after reading it you'll have the same ah-ha moment that I did.

Two.
My husband bought this. Two cases to be exact. Apparently Surge was re-released and being sold on Amazon so he snatched some up. I think someone is trying to relive his childhood?

Three.
On Sunday we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant after visiting the pumpkin patch. Well apparently when I went to the bathroom, Ben helped himself to my phone and took 50 pictures (which were all blurry) of everything from the table, to the cheese dip, and his brother and cousin. He also happened to take a pretty awesome selfie.

Four.
Considering I've pinned it twice now, I think it's time for me to make this delicious Almond Poppy Bread from Kaitlin

Five.

A Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

This year we drove 25 minutes to a different pumpkin patch than the one we usually go to only to find that it backs right up to a subdivision and is pretty tiny in comparison to our usual one. We pulled into a parking spot and then out just as quickly. Not to let the experience be ruined, we headed to our usual patch and vowed never to wander again.

This place has the typical pumpkin patch activities including a hayride, pumpkins, farm animals, and corn maze. It's also family owned and operated and there is a lot of land which is perfect for 2 little boys who want to run around in the country.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

It's only Tuesday and I've already got a random list of things I need to share.

We like to order pizza from local places, but every once in awhile we get good ole Pizza Hut because there's one close to our house and it has a drive thru. The last couple of times we've ordered from them our pizza has looked like this. Is it too much to ask that every slice has cheese on it?

I have a serious problem with hoarding cups at work. I forget to take them home with me at the end of each day and then this happens.

Some bloggers have really been getting on my nerves lately. I know I can stop reading anytime, but the problem is I really like their blogs, but I don't know if I can put up with all the sponsored posts and plugs to buy add space. I'm fine with it once in a while, but if I'm reading more about ads than your actual life I get turned off pretty quickly.

I painted my nails this perfect fall green from OPI. At least it was perfect until I looked at the name. Come on. Who wants pooped named nail polish?

This is a little hard to see but that would be a giant gnome in the back of a pickup truck. I need to know more.

I was excited to open this bad boy for a delicious 100 calorie snack only to find the apples completely mushy. Gag. I can't stand apples or bananas once they become the slightest bit soft.

I made this adorable DIY Wedding Card Box for some friends of ours and I've been putting off posting about it because while I decorated it, my husband actually built the box and I'm too lazy to ask him for the dimensions for the tutorial.

And I was almost done with this post when Monica Lewinsky popped up on the television. Apparently she's on a speaking tour talking about how she was a victim, called horrible names, etc. I don't condone bullying and yes she was young but she also chose to have an affair with the President of the Unites States. Who is married. There are plenty of young, stupid college girls who don't sleep with married men. I'm not sure what she thought would happen.

And I'm done :)

What's on your mind this Tuesday?
