Christmas Recap: Part 1

To help with the picture overload, I'm going to break up all our Christmas celebrations into a couple of posts.

A few days before Christmas we loaded the boys in the car, cranked up the Christmas music, and  checked out our favorite festive houses. I can barely manage to get a wreath up on the door, how do people do this?

On Christmas Eve Eve we decorated cookies without Jack (he's still a little too young) and it was so special to spend that time with just Ben. Although the dough was Pillsbury, the frosting designs were all ours.

We also decorated a gingerbread train. J is usually in charge of the construction and then Ben decorates and eats half the candy.

Christmas Eve day we went over to J's parent's house to celebrate with his mom's side of the family.

That night we headed a few miles down the road to J's aunt's house where we celebrated with all his cousins, their kids, and J's grandma.

By the end of the night Jack was so tired he climbed into this box and tried to lay down. Opening gifts isn't for the weak.

Both boys passed out in the car shortly after we got on the road which meant I had to set out the milk and cookies for Santa by myself. Does that make me crazy? I didn't want Ben to wake up and notice it wasn't out.

Christmas Day recap coming tomorrow!

From My Family to Yours...

We wish you a very merry & bright Christmas.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

DIY Gingerbread Man Playdough

With the kids out of school and Christmas quickly approaching, I have one last DIY activity that's perfect to make while waiting for Santa to visit. Not only is gingerbread man playdough easy to make, it smells heavenly as well!

What You Need:
-2 cups flour
-1/2 cup salt
-2 tbsp cream of tartar
-1 tbsp cinnamon
-1/2 tbsp ginger
-2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 to 1 1/4 cup water

What To Do:
1. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients together.
2. Add the oil and 1 cup of water to the bowl and mix together. If the dough is too dry, add a tbsp of water at a time until it is the consistency of playdough.

You'll want to get out the cookie cutters and make fun shapes but don't forget to remind little ones that no matter how great it smells, they shouldn't eat it:)

Weekend Recap

I'm going to start this post with the two cliches I'm sure every blogger is probably writing at the beginning of their posts today...this weekend went by way too fast and I can't believe Christmas is on Thursday.

Before I recap our weekend, was anyone else underwhelmed by the Homeland season finale last night or was it just me?

This was technically on Thursday, but we got our first real snow of the season. It was only about 2 inches, but there were so many accidents and people sliding off roads. The road in front of our house and Jack's daycare was temporarily closed due to accidents blocking the roadway. For as much chaos as it caused, it sure is pretty.

Friday afternoon Ben had his holiday party at school. The kids got to wear their pajamas that day and they decorated cookies, made ornaments, played bingo, and sang Rudolph at the end for all the parents.

My friend and stylist Melissa covered up my grays and gave me a nice little trim. Man it feels so good to get your hair done.

The perfect running errands outfit. I bought this vest last year and wasn't sure if I'd keep it, but I'm so glad I did.

This was my cart after said errand running. I got everything I needed to make my Christmas recipes, as well as the last bit of Christmas gifts as well as our weekly grocery haul. If you don't have the Target red card and Cartwheel app you are probably spending more than you should be.

I have a slight obsession with cozy socks and I LOVE this pair from Bath & Body Works that I've had forever.

J and I were able to sneak away to see Mockingjay Part 1. Based on people's reviews I expected this movie to be pretty slow, but it had a lot of action and Julianne Moore nailed the role as President of District 13. And yes, the ticket girl gave us the student price. Must be our young looks :)

Saturday night we watched my friend Abby's little boy. Mason and Jack are so cute together and they kept giving each other hugs and falling over at the same time.

Sunday afternoon I took the boys to see Santa and then to my sister's house to decorate cookies.

Jack provided us with the always hilarious crying baby photo.

Happy Monday friends!

Weekend Recap

On Friday night Jack's preschool performed the Nutcracker for their Christmas program. Jack's class were all snowflakes and he was so cute! I didn't get any good pictures due to the lighting in the theater, but we managed to take some great video. The following morning both boys were up early and insisted on sitting in my lap when they woke up. Despite not being able to breathe, I love the morning snuggles.

Ben made "cars" out of some diaper boxes we had lying around and J tied them together with a rope for a fun sleigh ride around the living room.

We managed to have a successful trip to Target thanks to these orange push pops which are sold in the cafe by the entrance.

Jack is so obsessed with our Elf on the Shelf that we ended up buying him a stuffed one hoping that he would put the real elf back on shelf. Well it totally backfired and now he insists on carrying both elves around. He even took them outside while we enjoyed the almost 70 degree weather on Sunday. Ben insisted on riding his bike even though it is way too small for him now. Thank goodness his birthday is next month and he'll be getting a new one.

I wrapped up the weekend with a Christmas craft which I'll post about tomorrow so make sure to check back then!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

5 on Friday

How is Christmas less than 2 weeks away?! I have a few gifts left to get and I hope to knock those out this weekend.

Ben came down with a stomach bug yesterday but it seemed to be short lived and he was feeling better by the end of the day. You know this wild man doesn't feel good when he sleeps all day.

I volunteered to help put together Ben's school directory and have spent the last few nights organizing and entering addresses and phone numbers into excel. It amazes me how messy some people's handwriting is or how some parent's let their kids fill out the information form. Do they not understand that I have to read these and if I can't read your information because it looks like a 5 year old wrote it or your 5 year old did write it, your thisclose to being left out.

I usually put our Christmas cards on the ledge leading down the stairs, but I love the look and simplicity of this card wreath holder. I plan to pick up the supplies and make it this weekend. Fingers crossed it turns out and I can share the tutorial next week.

We had a milk and cookies event at my work this week and two very special and popular princesses made an appearance. Although he was a little embarrassed, Ben loved getting to meet them. Jack however wants nothing to do with people in costumes and was happy eating a cookie. You'll also notice the Elf that never leaves his hands.

Happy Friday friends!
