Friday, Friday

Happy Halloweve! I hope the weather cooperates here and the rain holds off for all the little trick or treaters. I can't believe when we wake up on Sunday not only will we gain an hour (thanks time change) but it will also be NOVEMBER!!!

I'm linking up with AmandaAshleighKarli, & April for all things Friday so let's get going!

Remember how I got "boo'ed" at work, we'll when I got home yesterday I saw these little goodies waiting at our door.

After a quick Target run, we're ready to return the boo.

Has anyone else read this book? There are several bloggers who are following this method to declutter and organize their lives and I'm very tempted to order it. Jennifer is doing a series on it and it's neat and inspiring seeing all her progress.

When I was little I had a mint green blankey with a silk trim that I carried with me everywhere. On the bus to school, vacations, and shoved in my pillowcase when I stayed the night at a friend's house. You can imagine the wear that happened after years of snuggles. The silk is long gone, there's big holes, and to be honest Jack is kind of scared it and insists it not stay in his room. No room momma, no room. So imagine my sentimentalness when Ben feel asleep on the couch the other night with it wrapped around him all snuggled in.

In case you missed it, I blogged about this Creamy Caramel Sauce earlier this week which would be great to make this Halloween weekend.

I will find time this weekend to make Lisa's DIY Wine Bottle Candle. Is this not amazing? I'm hoping I don't end up with thousands of tiny pieces of glass all around my kitchen.

Happy Halloween!

Creamy Caramel Sauce

There's something so fall about fresh crisp apples racked through some ooey gooey caramel sauce. Although I love the caramel in the tubs from the grocery store, when I saw this recipe from the  Pioneer Women I knew I had to make it.

In all honesty, the texture of this sauce and even the taste is pretty different from the store bought kind, but it's way fresher and only has 4 ingredients. It's more sauce like than it is stringy caramel, but the entire batch along with 5 huge granny smith apples were devoured in no time.

What You'll Need:
-1 cup packed brown sugar
-1/2 cup Half & Half
-4 tablespoons salted butter
-1 tbsp vanilla
*In Ree's recipe she also adds a pinch of salt, but using salted butter eliminates the need to add more salt

1. In a small saucepan over medium to low heat, combine brown sugar, half & half, and butter.
2. Stir until butter is melted and all ingredients are well mixed, approximately 5 minutes.
3. Add vanilla, turn heat down to low, and continue to stir for another 1-2 minutes.
4. Remove sauce from the heat and pour into a glass bowl or mason jar. Cover and place in the refrigerator until cool.

Weekend Recap

I really could have used one extra day between Sunday and Monday. I got more done around the house this weekend than I have in the past 6 months since we've moved in. No joke. The weather on Friday and Saturday was cold and dreary which meant I got to breakout my rain boots for the first time since Summer.

Saturday was perfect for watching Halloween movies (thank you ABC Family) and not getting out of our pjs. I finally tackled the disaster that was my 6 year old's bedroom and organized and cleaned every single thing in his room. I also made sure to tell/show Ben where each thing went so he could put things away.

Sunday was beautiful outside and although we had plans to go to the pumpkin patch none of us were really feeling it so Hocus Pocus and cleaning/purging/organizing the playroom it was. Man it felt good to get.stuff.done. Once I get artwork and finishing touches just right I'll post reveal pics like this one.

Not to be totally lame, we did carve pumpkins Friday night and ate a very festive Halloween pizza from Papa Murphy's.

I love Ben's face as he's trying to cut out the eyes with the teeny tiny knife that comes in those pumpkin carving kits.

I also captured the greatest photos of Jack touching the pumpkin goop. Although he preferred to paint his pumpkin, he had no problem flinging the seeds across the room.

One last thing before I go...I'm in serious need of a therapy session after last night's episode of The Walking Dead. Did any of you watch it? If so, email me so we can chat about it. Seriously.

Here's to great Monday!

Friday, Friday

Happy Happy Friday! This week went pretty fast considering I thought Wednesday was Thursday all day. Don't you hate that. We don't have any real plans this weekend except carving our pumpkins and hitting up the pumpkin patch, but I do have a lot to get done around the house. Here's to hoping the kids cooperate!

I had a gift certificate for a manicure left from Christmas and after getting my nails and toenails done last week, I hit up the nail salon again. I choose OPI's Black Cherry Chutney this time instead of my go to Lincoln Park After Dark. Black Cherry Chutney is great if you like dark colors for fall, but not as dark as LPAD.

Last weekend my niece spent the night and we officially got rid of diapers for Jack (except for bedtime). He's been doing so great and just looks so darn cute in his little underwear.

We are huge Dippin' Dot lovers in this house so when Ben and I found these individual bags at a gas station our excitement over them was almost embarrassing. Am I the last one to know about these? I hate banana flavoring of any kind but this banana split flavor is my favorite and oddly tastes nothing like banana.

In case you missed it earlier this week, I posted the reveal of our master bedroom closet.

I saw this Halloween playlist floating around the internet. How fun and totally festive would it be to have this list playing while carving pumpkins or doing a fun fall craft.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Jack pooped on the potty instead of in his underwear last night.

The weather here has been 50 degrees in the morning and 80 by the afternoon which makes dressing for the day almost impossible.

I just ordered the kids Halloween costumes last night. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

Why is getting up earlier in the mornings so hard? I've already failed 3/3 mornings this week.

Ben's had a cold this week and even though I know the poor thing can't help it, his coughing is so annoying and drives me crazy.

J and I watched Vacation last weekend and despite receiving a rotten rating, we both thought it was one of the funniest movies we've seen in a long time.

I made a new recipe for dinner this week and it was disgusting. Pinterest needs to get a dislike button asap.

Hope you all have a great Wednesday. We're halfway to Friday!

Our New Home {Master Bedroom Closet Reveal}

Believe it or not I actually have a "room" reveal for you all today. That is if you count the master bedroom closet as a "room reveal." Gotta start somewhere right?

When we first moved into the house the master bedroom, bathroom, and closet were, if we're being honest, a poop brown color. I knew I wanted gray in all the areas and I knew it would need to get painted before we even moved in or else painting would get added to the never ending to-do list and never get done.

I wanted Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams in other rooms in the house (after seeing it in a builder home we looked at buying), but wanted something slightly darker for the master areas and ultimately went with Dorian Gray. We had painters paint the master areas because of all the details and cutting in and it was well worth the money.

The Before:

The Afters:

J's side. Standing in the Master Bath looking right into our closet.

Looking left into our closet across from J's side. Extra hangers, dirty clothes hampers, and all my dresses. Towels normally go on the shelf but as you can see I really needed to do laundry. I wish the painters had painted the reinforcing boards as well and we may go back through at some point and paint them gray as well. May.

Looking straight into our closet. My built ins and clothes to the right. Keep reading for how I made my chalkboard labels.
Click here to read about how I keep my boots standing up tall and not flopping over.

I keep my necklaces on that necklace tree, bracelets/watches on the circular tray, and then stud type earrings in the blue dish I picked up at West Elm. All my other earrings are stored in a hanging jewelry holder with pockets which you can see in the last pic on the far right.

Booties, weekend bags, and purses are on the second shelf but covered up by the hanging clothes.

We used to have a dresser in our master closet in our old house, but with the awesome built ins in this house we didn't really need it. I bought all of my bins from Target and I use them to store things that would normally go in a dresser such as socks, bras, underwear, etc. Jeans/shorts are just stacked directly on the shelf.

I also bought several packages of these chalkboard labels from the Target dollar spot and used a chalk pen to write the labels for each bin. I wrote all mine in lowercase to keep a cohesive look and yes, I had to look up how to spell lingerie.

And there you have it! To see more before pictures of our whole house, don't forget to check out this post.

Friday, Friday

Happy Happy Friday! I'm jumping right in with this week's post.

I was "Boo'd" this week at work and got these adorable Halloween wine glasses from Pier One and a little notepad. Have you guys ever done the boo game? You basically leave a small gift for someone with a printout of the rules and a sign for them to hang and then they do the same for someone else. I've also seen neighbors do this and it's such a cute idea!

I posted this on Facebook earlier this week, but I'm obsessed with kids pajamas. I just can't help myself so I saw these pjs on a Facebook mom swap I had to snatch them up. Our cute little sea turtle.

I stopped by my favorite Goodwill in between clients last week and got all of these things for around $20, most of which were brand new including a pair of shoes for Jack and the most adorable plaid fur hat for whichever boy I can convince to wear to it. And one of them will wear it.

All the 1st graders in Ben's school went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch earlier this week and I'm so glad I got to go. It was a pretty typical patch, but one of my favorite things was seeing the different stages of how a pumpkin grows all the way from the flower to the big fat orange pumpkins.

Temperatures this weekend are going to be cooollllddd so I'm planning to make this easy slow cooker soup to fill us up and keep me from actually having to cook this weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
