Weekend Recap

Can I be honest? I didn't have one ounce of patience left in me when I put the kids to bed last night. I was done. J finished up a big project for a client and was gone pretty much the whole weekend. Jack pretended to pee on his brothers head, Ben taught Jack to climb up the railing of our stairs, and they both loudly protested any kind of cleaning. And by cleaning I mean picking up their various pairs of underwear scattered around the house. But, the weekend wasn't all bad, and in between moments of me loosing my sanity we managed to have fun and I actually got some things crossed off my to-do list.

Pottery Barn always seem to provide a pick me up and I can't wait to hang this wreath once spring arrives.

Saturday morning we headed to our local HyVee grocery store for a Pajama and Pancake Celebration in honor of national pancake week. They had activities for the kids and of course pancakes and the kids loved that they got to wear their pjs while we grocery shopped afterwards.

The weather was beautiful again this weekend and I forgot how nice it is not to have to lug coats around. I wore my Kendra Scott inspired necklace out to lunch later in the day.

Ben requested a picture of him eating. And then requested I blog it. So here ya go.

I'm hosting a baby shower for my best friend in about a month and mailed out the final invitations. This is her 3rd baby and although some people think you shouldn't have a shower I'm always inclined to disagree. Why should the 3rd baby be left out and not celebrated just because he's 3rd? Bring on the party! I ordered the invites from Blue French Designs on ETSY and love how they turned out.

Biggest cinnamon roll ever.

A little butt naked "reading." Notice the chapter book.

Followed by time outside to burn off all that energy. His toddler Bible also joined us outside and baby Moses was called baby Jesus all weekend long despite me telling him no less than 10 times that baby Jesus did in fact not float down the river in a basket.

For an afternoon snack the kids and I tried out this cookie butter recipe from Pinterest. It made the perfect little sized cookies which were not too sickeningly sweet.

I ended the weekend excited to watch the Oscars especially since I find Chris Rock to be pretty funny and J and I have actually watched many of the movies that were nominated. I thought there were a lot of fashion fails this year, but my favorite dressed actresses were Maria Menounos,  Cate Blanchett, Sophia Vergara, Jennifer Garner, Brie Larson, and Sarah Silverman.

And although I didn't love Kate Winslet's dress, I adore this picture.

Have a great Monday!

St. Patty's Day Round Up

We don't go crazy around here for St. Patrick's day, but it's fun to see what trouble that little leprechaun gets into at our house and make a few fun crafts or snacks. Here's my favorite ideas from around the web and make sure to see all the things I'm loving on my Pinterest Page.

What a fun little surprise for your neighbor.

A few years ago we tried making a shamrock stamp and it turned out to be a fun and easy activity.

These would be cute for the boys' school or even coworkers.

And how adorable is this shamrock wreath from ETSY. I'm thinking I may be able to recreate this for a fun little DIY.

I made Lucky Charm rice crispy treats last year, but these treats using Trix seem sure to be delicious.

How do you celebrate St. Patty's Day?

Weekend Recap

Despite trying my best to avoid getting my co-worker + Jack's cold I sent this Snapchat last night after the sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes were in full force. Hellllooo sexy.

But let's rewind to before the sickness and earlier this weekend which was actually pretty good. Saturday was the day of all days with temperatures reaching almost 80!

After a pretty sleepless night thanks to Jack's coughing and ultimately "sleeping" in bed with me, we headed out to grab bagels for breakfast and then managed to spend the majority of the day outside.

I cleaned and swept out the garage and J finally took down our Christmas lights. Don't judge us. The kids also managed to drag out almost every outdoor toy and bike/scooter/car we have. I had to draw the line at the water table despite them assuring me summer was here. FYI It's supposed to snow Wednesday.

We also headed to get the car washed and vacuumed which was the best $25 I've spent in a long time.

Nothing says warm weather like J and I's favorite frozen adult beverage.

Saturday night J and I went to a newer restaurant in town and I branched out and tried the braised short rib cannelloni. Different, but pretty good and I was proud of myself for trying something new.

Sunday went way too fast. We ate lunch at the Olive Garden where the boys were actually very well behaved followed by a leisurely trip to Target where the boys, again, managed not to act like wild animals. I also found this AWESOME tray which happened to be laying in a random aisle but was originally from the dollar spot. I haven't decided if I'm going to stain the very light wood or leave it as it is, thoughts?

And last but not least on Sunday night I made this Bang Bang Chicken which had been sitting on my Pinterest board just starring at me. YOU GUYS. This was my favorite thing I've ever made. EVER!! J said it was his second favorite coming in just behind my recipe for jalapeno stuffed chicken breast. I will definitely be making this again and next time with shrimp. The only slightly negative thing I have to say about this recipe is that I found it to take longer than 30 minutes from start to finish but that could also just be me. And whatever you do, make the sweet chili sauce.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Weekend Recap {Valentine's Day + President's Day}

Man it's tough having to get back into our regular schedule after having a long weekend especially since our Valentine's Day weekend was pretty darn perfect minus a few times I needed a slight time out from the kids.

The kids both had parties at school and it doesn't get much cuter than seeing little kids open all their valentines from friends. I was pretty proud of our homemade valentines this year, but let me tell you, some parents went all out. You can definitely tell it's the age of Pinterest.

Saturday night J and I watched No Escape before going out for a late (9:30pm) dinner at our favorite steak house. If it wasn't for v-day and the fact that a delicious meal was involved I'd normally be asleep by 9:30. Both the movie and dinner were fantastic.

I headed out in the fresh snow early Sunday morning to pick up the kids from my MIL's house and the rest of the day we relaxed at home and I didn't do nearly as much laundry as I needed to. J and I continued our valentine's day celebration with flowers for me, booze for him, and take out sushi and The Walking Dead after the kids went to bed.

The kids and I were off Monday for President's day and J didn't have to work until that afternoon so I took full advantage and hit up the gym before we headed out to lunch where I had a salad that unfortunately looked better than it actually tasted. Side note: check out my Instagram to find out where and how much I got this workout outfit for. You'll never guess!

We ended the day with a yet to be played with Christmas present that despite being called a "chocolate bar maker" requires you to have actually already have chocolate on hand?!?

And that's a wrap, Happy Hump Day!

Friday, Friday

Happy Valentine's Weekend! Take some time this weekend to show a little extra love and definitely make sure to use this holiday as an excuse to eat all the heart shaped candy so you can shove in your mouth. I took today off since Ben's out of school for a teacher's workday and I'm off Monday as well for President's Day so it's a 4 day weekend for me! Here's to hoping we're not ready to kill each other by the end.

I'm linking up with my usual gals AmandaKarliChristina, & Astleigh to bring you my five from this week.

Did anybody else get their free Chipotle burrito from earlier this week? Chipotle's nation wide were closed on Monday to address this little issue so the restaurant offered a free burrito coupon if you sent them a text. We tried to redeem our burrito last night but apparently everyone in our town also had that idea and the line was crazier than it normally is. Guess we'll be waiting.

Excuse the RBF. I almost didn't post this pic, but for the sake of keeping it real and for those of you who don't know anyone that has RBF, here ya go. Besides my scowl, I wore my thrift store sweater (along with my MK lipgloss I can't get enough of) to work this week and I'm in love with that button detailing.

Honey crisp apples. Can't stop, won't stop eating them. Literally. Even at $10 for 3 apples. Ahhh.

I made these Valentine's for Ben's party yesterday and they were a hit with both the boys and girls in his class. There have definitely been years where I've bought the store bought cards and called it a day but with so many cute ideas and FREE printables on Pinterest I couldn't resist whipping up something different.

I came across this picture on Pinterest and just loved how it was drawn in, worn, and obviously thoroughly used. Isn't this how all of our bibles should look?

Happy Friday!!

The 5 Second Way to Save Your Paintbrush

I just love painting every room in my house said no one ever. And although I love the finished look, painting and everything that comes with it (tapping off, cutting in, touching up) can make it a tedious task. There's been quite a few times when I was this close to being done and ran out of paint or it's midnight and I just can't muster up the strength to paint one more inch. The LAST thing I want to do is clean up and rinse out my brush or roller. Well did you know you don't have to?

This little trick keeps your brush soft and the paint on your brush from drying and getting hard which means no more throwing away a $10 brush because it got all crusty (please tell me I'm not the only one that does this).

All you need is saran wrap and your brush. That's it. Simply wrap your brush in a piece of saran wrap making sure to cover all the bristles. The saran wrap locks in the moisture and keeps the paint from drying while you make another run to Home Depot or take a 2 24 hour nap. When you're ready to paint again simply remove the wrap and you're good as new.

A 7th Birthday Painting Party

Saturday was the last of the celebrations for our new seven year old. As Ben's gotten older I've realized the amazingness of out of the house parties. The kids get to do a fun activity and I don't have to spend hours prepping or cleaning up. Win!

Ben's really into art so we decided to try out a canvas painting place in our town. These types of places are pretty popular right now and considering they provide everything and clean up, it was well worth the cost. The kids painted The Flash symbol, and ate pizza and cake before Ben tore threw the presents.
