Weekend Recap

Friday night wine + nails before dinner with the family to celebrate my niece's new internship.

5am Saturday morning I was woken up to the phone ringing and a tearful Jack telling me he missed me and wanted me to come get him. My mother-in-law said he had been up all night coughing and was running a fever.

Since he'd just been sick with a cough and fever a few weeks before I made sure we were the first patient as soon the doctor's office opened. Jack ended up getting a breathing treatment at the clinic before being sent home with an inhaler, 2 antibiotics, and asthma. Poor guy. We were told to keep an eye on his breathing and if he didn't get better he would need to be admitted to the hospital for observation.

Luckily by Sunday he was almost back to his old self and no longer screaming bloody murder when it was time for his inhaler. Sunday evening the boys agreed they both needed some ice cream and I needed some more wine.

Even though the weekend didn't go as planned we are so so thankful that it wasn't worse and that we didn't have to spend anytime at the hospital. I'm also SO thankful that Jack has an inhaler so we can stay on top of things. Hopefully this is the end of the sickies for the little guy.

Friday, Friday

We made it to Friday folks! How is next weekend May already? April flew by in the blink of an eye and before I know it Summer will be here in full force.

I'm linking up with ChristinaAmandaAshleigh, & Karli to bring you my 5 thoughts this Friday.

I cut several inches off my hair earlier this week and the only regret I have is not doing it earlier. I also got rid of the pesky grey that just keeps coming back. Anyone else get grey hair early? It happened to both my mom and older sister so I knew I was screwed. One of my dearest friends also happens to be my stylist and takes before/after pics of her clients so I got this little gem. Now if she could just come style it for every morning.

Get after it. Target+Starbuck's Cake Pop=Heaven

Speaking of Target, I picked up some more $1 card sets because believe it or not, when I went to grab one the other day I realized I had used them all. How cute are the succulent ones?

Ben had Art Night at his school last night and one of the sessions was "Mine-Crafting." I just don't get the big deal about this game or quite frankly how to do it. I was in a computer lab with 30 other 1st graders who all knew more than me and I was completely ok with it.

I've got an exciting announcement I'll be sharing next and while I'm really excited, I'd also be lying to say that I wasn't a ball of nerves as well. Eek!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Favorites From Around the Web

One more day until Friday!!! Can I get an amen? And what's better to round out the week than a little recap of my favorite articles, videos, and other randomness from around the interwebs.

I dare you to not laugh during this one. I was dying. "I'm about to come apart."

These 40 Must See Places to Take Your Kids have me itching to travel.Bad.

This story about 14 year old Jack on Britain's Got Talent had me all but weeping on the couch.

I haven't been able to get Dolly Parton's song, Jolene, out of my head all week. Of course I had to do a little research to see if there was any truth behind the song and you can read about where she got the inspiration for the song here.

Weekend Recap

My pasty white skin actually got a little color this weekend thanks to 80 degree temps which was great, but also made me realize I need to run out and pick up some sunless tanner. Stat.

Besides blinding people, I've also been stealing my kids popsicles and hiding them in the back of the freezer because these Jolly Rancher ones are so darn good. Anyone else do this?

Friday evening was pretty uneventful. I had a feeling you all didn't want to see my trip to the grocery store and boy was I right.

Saturday morning started with our usual breakfast of bagels/cinnamon rolls/donuts (not all at once, we switch out each weekend). I also cleaned out the million toys, food wrappers, and random socks my kids manage to leave in my car on a daily basis and then took my car to be professionally cleaned and detailed. Those guys earn every.single.dollar they make.

Saturday evening we went to the scrimmage game for the Missouri Tigers football team where we managed to make it one and a fourth quarters before the boys were ready to leave. #goodthingitwasfree

Lakeside margaritas and Mexican food after the game.

Sunday morning Jack slept in until 9 and once everyone was awake we tackled some spring cleaning of the bedrooms and closets. Ben had his first baseball practice of the season which I failed to get a picture of but he did great and has improved so much since last season. After practice it was more time outside riding bikes, going to the park, and BBQ-ing followed up by ice cream and early baths and bedtimes for all.

And last but not least. I'm loving the look of Keds or Converse for Summer. What I love even more are these ones from Walmart. The same look for a fraction of the price. These are under $7 you guys. $7!!! I wanted to try them out and see how comfortable they were before buying more colors and I'm happy to report I'll be snatching up a few more pairs pronto.

Hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Monday, April 11, 2016

And here we are at Monday again. Poor Jack's been battling a nasty fever, cough, and just feeling like crap. He managed to stay fever free this weekend for the first time all week so I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that he's on the up and up.

Friday night we went to a hibachi restaurant to celebrate my sister's birthday. Jack was fascinated with the fire and onion volcano although our chef may have either been new or drunk as he managed to drop and crack 3 eggs during a trick where he was supposed to catch an egg in his hat making dinner even more entertaining than usual.

As part of my sister's present I picked up this candle from Kohls. Have any of you seen these? This one smelled amazing and is perfect for Summer. The thing that really sold me on it though was that once the candle is burned, you can reuse the jar for baking mini desserts, dips, etc.

Saturday was spent outside putting out new mulch (me), mowing the yard (J), and countless laps around the cut-de-sac (kids). We also got to meet our neighbors new Goldendoodle which we fell instantly in love with. It was SO soft and I hear that breed doesn't shed. Ben really really wants a dog and Jack's getting to the age where he's not as scared of them so as I told them, we'll see :)

Sunday was rainy and cool which made for the perfect day to clean house, catch up on laundry, and hang around at home.

Have a great week!

Strawberry Lemon Sangria

This refreshing, light, and not too sweet sangria is perfect for any occasion and super simple to make.

What You'll Need: (adapted from here)
-1 lb strawberries (cut in halves)
-2 lemons (thinly sliced, seeds removed)
-1 apple; I prefer Honeycrisp (seeds removed, cut in chunks)
-4 pack of small (187 ml) bottles in White Zinfandel
-1/2 c light rum
-4 cups Sprite/Sierra Mist

WhatYou'll Do:
Ready for the directions? Cut fruit and add to pitcher or canister. Add wine, rum, and Sprite. Chill and serve. Hard right?

I may have caught my husband eating the fruit in the middle of the night. After he drank the rest of the sangria. It's that good.

Weekending + Spring Break Week

Happy Monday! This weekend was filled with a little bit of everything. Cleaning, relaxing, working, and time with just the husband drinking a jumbo margarita and watching 10 Cloverfield Lane. Have ya'll seen it? John Goodman was cast perfectly.

Besides aliens and creepy old men, I also got to meet one of my friend's sweet new baby girl. Is she not perfect? Holding a teeny tiny newborn baby just never gets old.

I made these cream puffs since this is one of my husband's favorite treats. He ate 8 the day I made them so I would call this one a success. I'm always afraid to make any kind of bread/roll but the recipe was actually pretty easy and I made homemade whipped cream for the first time. Am I the last person to do this?
Earlier this week I took a few days off for Ben's spring break even though we didn't go anywhere. We went hiking one day and had so much fun. We've already talked about another state park we want to hike so I think this may become our little thing to do together.

And last but not least, I finally put the finishing touches on the laundry room makeover and I'll be sharing the after photos this week. Here's a quick iPhone sneak peek.

Have a great week!
